 NSUC Art Fair 2012

THE 43nd ANNUAL ART FAIR AT THE NORTH SHORE UNITARIAN CHURCH

 Held on Saturday, April 28th and Sunday April 29th

The ART SHOW: Painting by Beata Lange, artist featured at NSUC Art Fair 2012. The rich textures acheived by Beata are a result of her playful layering of oil paints with a palette knife. Inspired mostly by nature, Beata Lange's art evokes a sense of warmth and pleasure.

 

Our annual juried ART FAIR is fairly unique: 

  • It is held very early in the “show season,” giving artists a venue to exhibit the best of their newest work.
  • It is held all indoors so that weather is never an issue.
  • It is held in a gorgeous setting; the contemporary architecture of the church complex serves as an excellent backdrop for viewing the works of the artists.
  • We host approximately 70 talented artists and artisans, giving the show a very intimate, boutique-like feel.

Ceramics by artist Jill Grau Tortorella from Antioch Pottery Works. Jill Tortorella creates wheelthrown and altered, one of a kind pottery, which become 3-dimensional paintings. Bold patterns are known characteristics of her work.

The fine art and fine crafts exhibited at ART 2012 include original works of photography, painting, ceramics, glass, paper, woodwork, jewelry, sculpture, fiber, clothing and mixed media.  This year’s presenting artists are from Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.  Some of our favorite artists from previous years are returning, and in addition, there are some fabulous “newcomers” who will bring exciting work for your viewing and purchasing pleasure. 

ART 2012 is a “total experience” show: it offers entertainment, an art workshop for children, free babysitting, food, and an art raffle.  It is, as always, a fun and joyful time for everyone.   

The ENTERTAINMENT:  

There will be live entertainment throughout the weekend.  Many of the performers (pianists, vocalists, instrumentalists) are talents from our own congregation.

The JOY HODGEN CHILDREN’S ART WORKSHOP: 

This is a special tradition of Art Fair.  Begun by and named in honor of the late Joy Hodgen, beloved long time member of NSUC, it has continued to be part of Art Fair for over 30 years. The workshop offers a one-hour hands-on art enrichment experience for children (ages 4-12) while their parents enjoy the show. 

The BABYSITTING: 

Free babysitting is offered for infants and toddlers on Saturday, 10:00 – 5:00, and on Sunday, 11:00 – 4:00.

The ARTISTS’ PALATE CAFÉ: 

Enjoy food and snacks at our full-service, in-house café.  As some like to say, come to Art Fair for the food, stay for the show!   

The ART FAIR RAFFLE: 

Buy tickets for a chance to win a piece of art at raffle drawings held periodically throughout the weekend.  All items offered in the raffle are donated by artists exhibiting in the show.
