The NSUC Art Fair is one of the premier ARTS events of the North Shore. For over 30 years an entire weekend of wonderful art and great entertainment has been held the last weekend in April or first weekend in May. Between 50 and 60 artists representing a variety of art media are chosen by jury from local area artists as well as artists from several surrounding states. Though a significant fundraiser for the church, it is also one of the most enjoyable social events during the year. At the Art Fair one can find delicious food at The Palate Café, entertainment by local musical groups, a raffle of works donated by the artists, an art workshop for young children, and, of course, rooms and rooms of wonderful art works of all kinds.The NSUC Art Fair has been successful due to the numerous volunteers who devote their time and energy. Every year committee chairs and co-chairs are needed in the following areas:
Artist Recruitment and Selection
The Art Fair is always looking for the right mix of high quality artists and artisans for the show. Recruitment starts in the summer and ends in the fall by sending applications to potential exhibitors. In February, a jury composed of congregation members selects artists for the Art Fair. The chair and co-chair are responsible for collecting and distributing applications, selecting and convening the jury, and informing artists of the results.
Event Advertisement and Publicity
The Art Fair is open to the public and advertising is key to a successful show. The chair and co-chair are responsible for the printing and distributing flyers, posters and post cards. Other duties can include placing ads in regional newspapers, magazines, and websites or arranging a feature story on the fair.
Personnel and Staffing
Art Fair weekend requires an enormous amount of people to work at this all church event. The personnel and staffing chair and co-chair are responsible for volunteer recruitment for Art Fair weekend. Duties include manning a sign-up table after Sunday services in April and supervising volunteers during Art Fair weekend.
Logistics and Artist Relations
The chair and co-chair for logistics and artist relations assign building space based on the show's and the artist's needs. Duties include set up and clean up for the Fair as well as interacting with the exhibitors, entertainers, and Art Fair staff to meet their needs for the show.
Food Service
The Palate Café sells food and beverages throughout Art Fair weekend. The chair and co-chair are responsible for buying the supplies, preparing the food, and supervising café volunteers.Entertainment
The Art Fair also provides musical entertainment in the Sanctuary on Saturday and Sunday. The chair and co-chair are responsible for recruiting and scheduling performers during the show.Artist Raffle
50 to 60 exhibitors donate pieces of their work to raffle off during Art Fair weekend. The chair and co-chair are responsible for raffle ticket sales, collecting the donated works, scheduling the drawings, and contacting the winners.
Children's Art Workshop
The Children's art workshop is open thought Art Fair weekend and provides an opportunity for kids to create artwork of their own. The chair and co-chair are responsible for choosing projects, buying and collecting materials and supplies, and supervising the volunteers.
