Members of NSUC, as well as visitors, may partake in a wide variety of activities within the life of the church. From Religious Education to Covenant Groups to Social Action or Special Events, there are a great many opportunities to enhance and grow your spiritual life and to make a positive contribution to the church and to the wider community.
Additional opportunities to serve include everything from participation in church leadership to simply greeting fellow members on Sunday morning, ushering or volunteering for Coffee Hour.
The General Program Committee supports and encourages social opportunities within the NSUC community. Our activities range from dinners at members’ homes to church-wide holiday celebrations, as well as many small group gatherings for socializing, including Exchange Dinners and Neighborhood Clusters.
For Exchange Dinners, hosts and guests sign up for potluck dinners of 6 to 12 held at members’ homes on specific Saturdays in the fall and winter. Hosts arrange the exact time of the party and invite guests; guests attend and bring their assigned dinner contribution.
Neighborhood Clusters are geographically based groups (based on zip codes) that get together 3 to 6 times a year. Generally, the Cluster Groups hold potluck dinners at members’ homes but other activities are possible. Cluster groups are active in many communities around the church.
NSUC sponsors many special events throughout the year. Announcements regarding these events can be found in the weekly Order of Service. They are also published in our newsletter The Beacon. Events include the annual Art Fair and Rummage Sale as well as a host of educational, social and spiritual opportunities. Information about Special Events is posted periodically on this web site, or you may contact the church business office directly at 847.235.1957 or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
