Mentoring and More

Mentoring Program

Mentoring Program

Each Affirmant is carefully assigned a Mentor, an adult member of the congregation who will help him or her throughout the year with the various projects and programs related to Affirmation. Mentors and Affirmants form a strong bond through the year and many remain close for years to come. Mentors meet with their Affirmants at least once a month and discuss the themes of the month.

Affirmation Project

Affirmation Project

Affirmants, assisted by their Mentor and family, will design and execute a project that explores and reflects their understanding of faith and Unitarian Universalism.

Projects must fall into one of three categories: Religious Education, Social Justice, or Worship Arts. Past projects have included teaching Sunday School, planning a gift drive for soldiers abroad, or performing a series of concerts in church.

Statement of Faith

Affirmants will work with their Mentor and their family to write a 1-2 page reflection of their faith and their understanding of Unitarian Universalism. Statements will be shared with the congregation on Affirmation Sunday.

Heritage Trip

The culmination of the Affirmation Program is the Heritage Trip to Boston. Boston is where both American Unitarianism and American Universalism developed and where the Unitarian Universalist Association is located. Students will explore their own history and see first hand the roots of their tradition. Families are involved in fundraising for this trip, hosting a variety of events, including the Pancake Breakfast.
